New album on the way

Weapon Of Peace are currently working on a new album, which is due to be released before the end of the year. Included are updates of old favourites Jah Love and Standing On The Edge, alongside new compositions such as Hard Times, Drift Away and Pain. Bass-man Derrick Ritchie reports that the new material will be “an advancement of the band’s legacy, drawing on influences old and new to create contemporary fusion music that has substance and relevance”.

Silver Screen Success for Colin Palmer and Weapon Of Peace

A film which features the acting talents of Weapon Of Peace percussionist Colin Palmer and the music of the band was nominated for an award at the prestigious Music Video And Screen Awards at the Black International Film Festival, held at the ICC in Birmingham in October 2011. The star-studded event was hosted by Jimmy Akingbola of Holby City and EastEnders fame.

The feature length movie Park It Right was runner-up in the Best Film category to Throw Of A Dice, starring Waking The Dead’s Wil Johnson. The role actually marks Colin’s acting debut, having secured the part through the Wolverhampton-based Leading Role Agency. He is pictured here at his audition.

Written, produced and directed by Donny Kingsley Okoh for Don Ebony Productions, the film chronicles the adventures of a group of traffic wardens who are on a mission to improve the public’s perception of their profession. Taking the difficulties they encounter on a daily basis in their stride, and by challenging preconceptions, they attempt to gain acceptance from the public by showing that behind their uniforms they are just like everybody else.

Meanwhile, the film, which is set for worldwide release and British television exposure, includes two tracks, Standing On The Edge and Hard Times, taken from Weapon Of Peace’s forthcoming new album.
